THE PROJECT

Mana over Meth Kura Kaupapa is a culturally enriched, interactive programme addressing addiction and recovery, specifically tailored for Rangatahi. This initiative encourages young people to engage in real-life situations through collaborative teamwork, fostering a sense of identity through working together as a roopu (group).  Launched in Te Tai Tokerau, the programme aims to create a safe space for open dialogue and personal growth among students in Years 11, 12, and 13.

Led by Jessica Apanui and Holly Beckham, who share their personal experiences with addiction and recovery, the programme offers insightful solutions presented with humour and aroha. Their narratives, born from feedback on our documentary Mana over Meth, highlight the pressing need for candid conversations surrounding addiction among Rangatahi.

Through the generous support of Te Rau Ora, Jessica and Director Holly Beckham are committed to reaching out and making a positive impact in the lives of young learners.

We firmly believe that cultural connections are fundamental to achieving hauora (well-being). Therefore, our delivery is rooted in Tikanga (protocols) and the values of Te Ao Māori (the Māori world). A key component of the Mana over Meth Kura Kaupapa is the mentorship provided by wāhine (women) with lived experience. We recognize the invaluable contribution that lived experience brings to Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) services, fostering whanaungatanga (relationships), empathy, and advocacy, which are essential for facilitating healing and recovery.

Join us in this Kaupapa as we empower Rangatahi to navigate their paths towards wellness and resilience.
